Is mere forgetting an excuse?

Is there space for just plain old forgetting in the list of justifiable excuses, especially in light of the growing list of things to do?

Unfortunately forgetting to care seems to be very much pardoned... not that it should be punished (!), but it's just that caring in itself isn't y'know, compulsorised (is there such a word?) yet. So people just... don't care. My hands are up in this one too.

(I think there's quite a Singa the Courtesy Lion in me that's all and please don't think I am an individual shorn of love lol.)
